How to Read an Investment Statement

A statement is a record, not a scoreboard. Learn the difference between contributions, value, income and fees.

Start with identity: your name, account or membership number, the period covered, and the name of the licensed product provider. If those are wrong, nothing else can be trusted.

Separate three numbers that people routinely mix up: (1) what you contributed, (2) the current market value of units, and (3) any income distributed or reinvested.

Find the fee line. Management fees, incentive fees, custody and statutory charges all reduce what you keep. A clean statement shows them.

Look at transactions: contributions in, switches, redemptions. Confirm every naira you sent appears. Query absences in writing.

Your HI Investments Africa dashboard mirrors these figures for every confirmed contribution, but a live statement from your licensed provider is the document that matters once real capital is involved.
